Beyond PHP 7.4

We started to work on this book in the summer of 2015. Back then, the PHP community was celebrating the language’s twentieth anniversary. Five years – and four minor versions of PHP later – it is time to look forward to PHP 8, so in this chapter we will take a look on some new features that have already been implemented for PHP 8.0.

PHP 8 will bring many more improvements than the ones discussed below – and their discussion is not as in-depth as that of the new features that were introduced in the various PHP 7 versions. This chapter merely intends to spark your interest in PHP’s next major version.
